Styles: New School, Abstract, Watercolor
Robert Hawley, perhaps best known for his growing reputation and work as one of Orlando’s premier tattoo artists, was born in Huntington, NY. Growing up with a passion for visual media, a creative eye, and the desire to experiment with various mediums, Robert’s artistic prowess began to blossom in 1995 when, at the age of 12, he and his family moved to Central Florida. With his exposure to Orlando’s budding art culture and thriving skate/punk scene, it was only a matter of time before Robert Hawley (better known as “Bobby” to his friends and family) started fusing the sights and sounds of this new environment with his artistic influences to create a style all his own. From that point forward, no bare patch of dry wall, cement, canvas, or cardboard was safe from Bobby’s assault as long as a marker, a spray can, paint brush, colored pencil, or even a crayon was within reach.
At age 17, after a great deal of refinement and instruction from various art courses and mentors, Bobby came face to face with a new medium that would soon become his focal point: skin and the art of tattooing.
As a stepping stone into the tattoo industry, Robert Hawley took on a piercing apprenticeship at a local studio in 2000. It was there, while still honing his talents with outlets ranging from acrylic paint to photography, that he was able to lay the foundation for his trade. Completing his first piece on a friend in 2002, Bobby was well on his way to kicking off a prolific and colorful career as a tattoo artist. Just one year later, after quickly progressing and building an already respectable portfolio, Robert Hawley seized the opportunity to put his talents and knowledge of the industry to work by partnering with long time friend and entrepreneur, Paul Hull. And at the tender age of 22, as the ink on many of Bobby’s first pieces was just starting to set, Evolution Tattoo was born to further his career and open other opportunities.
Robert Hawley, an artist before tattooist, has been tattooing full time since 2004. Drawing from the influences of fellow artists such as Tony Ciavaro, Jeff Gogue, Hoffa, Ryan Downie, Ant Iannucci, Seth Ciferri, Jeff Ensminger, and Edward Argibay, just to name a few, he has developed a style that has been described as “a new spin on neo-traditional” that relies on his preferred use of bright, bold colors. Becoming a regular on the convention circuit (first attending the Dallas, Texas Tattoo Round-up in 2005 and several others since), Bobby has also had the enormously valuable experience of being in the midst of numerous amazing tattooists that have also become friends. An artist first (skin being one of several preferred mediums), Bobby can almost always be found working on an artistic project of some kind when he’s not tattooing.
